Bio

Violin (acoustic)

Ross Daly is a violinist of extraordinary talent and vision.

His formal music training, on violin, viola and piano, was through the "Classical" stream culminating with a Bachelor of Music Degree in Performance from the University of Toronto (1987).

After several years of pursuing the symphonic scene in such orchestras as the Kitchener Waterloo Symphony, Hamilton Philharmonic, Thunder Bay Symphony, etc., Ross decided to “let his hair down”, so to speak.

He turned to Jazz, Latin, Celtic, New Age, Pop, Rock, Blues idioms and the like and began composing some truly original works.

His influences include Jean-Luc Ponty, Mark Wood, Stephane Grappelli, Turtle Island String Quartet.........

Well, you get the idea!

See Ross on our Staff page.

Performer

Ross' performances - as soloist with sequenced accompaniment or with his live band (vocals optional) - can be varied to create the atmosphere you desire.

From serene classics, swinging Jazz, spicy Latin, energetic Rock and Blues, to his own enigmatic originals, each show delivers dynamic entertainment value in a professional manner as Ross has done over the past fifteen years.

Violin (4 and 5-string electric)

Ross can be heard throughout Canada at various festivals and fairs, and in concert with one of his

many bands / ensembles:

“Blue Canoe” which is the prime ensemble for the expression of his original works; “Wave” is his zesty Latin crew; “Mystic Fyre” jigs up a storm Celtic style; and “Mannheim Virtuosi” - the quintessential Classical ensemble.  He has also been known to combine genres and crossover musical styles creating an “electrifying” experience!

Ross also performs coast-to-coast in North America, on electric violin, in several Tribute Stage Shows, namely: ABBA-Mania (ABBA), Stayin’ Alive (Bee Gee’s), Solitary Man (Neil Diamond), and Elvis, The Way It Was.  These shows also travel world-wide.

Ross had made fiddle appearances with the All-Star Country Tribute as well.

Viola

A well-known recitalist and feature in his local area of Waterloo,

Ross has also dazzled audiences at various functions such as:

Weddings, Corporate Events, Festivals, Fairs, Park Concerts, Dance Halls, Restaurants, Pubs, etc.

He has also been heard on:

  • CBC radio in Toronto

  • Rogers Cable TV “Day Time” show (Kitchener)

  • CKWR radio in Waterloo.

Violin (4 and 5-string electric)

Ross is currently working on his first solo CD with his band Blue Canoe and has been signed on as an extensive recording artist for Small Dog Records in Kitchener.

These demo tracks provide a sneak preview of what is to come and is merely the tip of the iceberg!

Workshops & Seminars:

I want to thank you again for speaking with our Public Relations students at Conestoga College (March '04 & '05). Choosing and booking entertainment for special events is an important - but often confusing - aspect of event planning. You were able to provide the students with excellent insight on what to look for in booking entertainment, the options available, and key contracting decisions. Your style was friendly and informative, and you were able to relate to the student's interests.

I hope that our students will keep your business card and consult with you in their first public relations roles. In the meantime, I'd love to have you come visit again next year with our new group of students.

Sincerely,

Fran Gregory
